Our latest craft box from Craft Merrily was all about the garden! We’ve been trying to encourage more wildlife to our garden, including making a miniature pond, so we thought we’d make some DIY bird feeders.

DIY Bird Feeders – what you’ll need

  • Small cardboard plant pots, or paper cups
  • Plant sticks or wooden skewers
  • String
  • Peanut butter
  • Bird seed

Make a small cut with a sharp knife (adults only!) in each side of the pots. Check your plant stick or skewer fits through snugly.

Make a hole in the bottom of the pots using a sharp pencil.

(This is the messy bit!) Using a knife or spoon, cover the pots in peanut butter.

Now roll the pots in the bird seed, ensuring it covers all the peanut butter.

Thread string through the hole.

Tie to a branch or bird table in the garden and wait to see who comes for dinner!
